Fearwell

Time has went by extremely fast. The first time that I heard that I had to take a basic reading course I was highly upset. I didn't think that I was going to like the class but it turned out to be the total opposite. After taking this class I have learned alot and I mean to a point where I would take this with me for the rest of my life. The Professor made everything to be interesting. She has also instilled in us how important reading can be and from that point on I knew that I had to start reading again not only she has told us how essential it can be but she also made it extremely fun such as having us blog our thoughts and ideas as well as having class discussion. At this point I am sad that the semester is over and I am going to miss this class alot. I hope to find another teacher that can make a big impact on me.

Random Family

Random Family was very intresting. Alot of parts in the story can be related to the life of some poeple in today's society. I thought this was one of the best book that we read this semester. I enjoyed majority of the stories that was in the book. I would recommend alot of people to get the book. Other than that after reading alot of intresting books this semester it has made realize how important and enjoing reading can be. My biggest goal is to contine reading books like this.

Anna Nicole Smith

Every morning last semester I would turn on the television and I would hear something about Anna Nicole Smith and it became an everyday routine until I was interested in hearing about what happen to her son and her trying to find out who the baby father was. After coming from class one day and turning on the television and finding out that she has died was very shocking to me. I believe after her going through all this stress it was her time. Everything happens for a reason and I truly believe that she is in a better place.

Birth Control

After group 7 presented I found the topic to be very interesting. I have realize the amount of stuff that we get away with over here. For example here we are able to have as much kids as we want but it in china you are only suppose to have one child or sometimes you are told that you can not have children at all do to the increase in the population. I feel as though they should be able to fix that problem and find a way were the people in china can make as many kids as they are please.

Fear

I was never the type that was afraid of a scary movie but what I am most scared of is maggots and slugs. I was always scared of worm like creatures. I would get so scared that I can not sleep. Just by looking at a lot of worms that is crawling on top of each other crawls my blood, it looks so disgusting. People ask me all the time how do you want to go into the medical field if you can not even look at maggots. They said maggots are used to clean out the infected wounds of a patient. I guess my biggest bet is to over come that fear and just one day stare at it until I am not scared of it any more and that would help me over come my fear. (Yea right).

Group 9

After seeing Britney perform as an artist it has shocked me the most on her behavior. Although she is going through a lot in her life she should not be acting in that manner. Drinking or taking drugs should not be the way to help her take away her stress, instead she should turn to her family for help because she is not only effecting her self but she is also effecting her kids and her fans are beginning to look down on her. I hope after the rehab she would change her ways and go back to song artists Britney Spears.

Celebrity Gossip

I am never to much into the celebrity gossip it does not really interest me because the majority of the time all it is is rumors. I would not enjoy living the life as a celebrity because I would always have someone in my business or someone making these ridiculous rumors. Celebrities have a lot to go through with paparazzi being in their business. I just don't believe that it is a good idea to have someone walking around and snapping pictures I think that is violating the space of the celebrity.

Sean Bell Case

If I was the Judge in the case of the Sean Bell murder I would charge the cop who shot 31 times murder where as the other cops would be charge for manslaughter. Taking on the role as a cop holds alot of training and for him to load his gun several times was ridiculous. I believe he went over board and the cops the night of the shooting should have found a better way to handle this situation. If a person killed a cop they would be charged for murder and I do not believe it is fair. Everyone should be treated equally whether if you are a resident or a cop.

The impact of School Violence

School violence has been something that have been going on for a long time. There is always that one kid in school who is always picked on. In a situation where a child is being picked on can cause a serious problem. Many kids who are picked on retaliate by making a hit list for those who they do not like. If a person is going around talking about that they have a hit list or they are planning to make one I think the principle in the school or the teachers should take it seriously. Alot of times when there is a rumor going around about a student making a hit list the faculty advisers do not take it in to their own matters rather they ignore the situation. For example with the Columbine High School shooting the boys who made the hit list I am sure other people knew about the situation but did not believe that the boys was plotting to kill them. If I was in a situation where there was a kid in my school who was going around making a hit list I would not know what to do. To be more on a safer side I think I would tell someone right away so these kids can get help and also to protect the kids in the school as well.

Qualities that I look for in a Presidenet

The qualities that I am looking for in a President is a person with integrity and someone who has the ability to lead the country and show good leadership roles. Personally I do not care what race or gender is taking on a President role the most important role is someone that is going to lead this country in the right way. Considering that Obama and Clinton are both running for president I believe that it would be a difficult election because as discussed in class Obama may be to young and he was not really heard of where as Clinton has leadership roles but she contradicts her self. For me this would be a hard decision. Honestly George Bush shows none of these qualities and I can not wait until he gets out of office.

True meaning of fairy tales

The article on the fairy tale was quite interesting. I would have never thought they would take a childhood story and change the story around. Not only did it interest me but it made me realize how many of these childhood fairy tales view women. Either the women is viewed as a slave (Cinderella)or they have to work hard in order to succeed. The men is the one who always sits back and relax. I believe that these fairytales sends of a message and and in a way it can relate to life. Not only are fairy tales enjoyable for the kids to read but it is also beneficial for older adults to reads as well because you can always learn something behind these stories.

WHY DO THEY KEEP SOME BAD SINGERS ON THE SHOW THAT OBVIOUSLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN VOTED OFF A WHILE AGO?

American Idol is a reality t.v. show as we all know it is basically to find that particular person that can sing the best. So they set up these auditions where they look for a specific group of people that has the voice for American Idol but during the audition they also find people that also can't sing. So they keep these people on the show for entertainment so the viewers can sit their and criticize the performers. I believe that if they had all good singers it would not make the show as interesting as it should be, which would kind of make it hard to eliminate some of the performers. That's my opinion on why they keep some of the bad singers on the show.

The Pact

The book that I read during the break was called "The Pact". It was a very interesting book. The book was basically about three young African American men who told the story of their life growing up. These young men went through many struggles and obstacles that they thought they may not overcome. They grew up in the streets of Newark were they face temptation, being around the wrong group of people and even jail. They all knew that they could not live this life for ever so they decided that they were going to make a pact. They promised each other to go to school and fulfill their dream of becoming doctors no matter what difficulties that they would have to face. Here they are today in which they made their dreams come true and all of them are doctors. One of them became a dentist and the other two became M.D's. I really enjoyed reading this book it displays a message that you can change your life and still dream big and that dream will one day come true if you are willing to make a pact and believe in your self that you can do it.

Plans for my final project

My caeer goals is to major in Biologoy and go to graduate school to become a Physician Assistant.

The way I want to present this project would be more like a scrap book but also in a journal form. I would present pictures and background information. I would use this to let everyone get an idea of who I am as an individual.

I would interview my highschool biology teacher. I would as him questions about the field, what classes he needed to take to major in biology. What did he get out of it and did he enjoy studyig the different sciences.

The Tyra Banks Show

After watching the Tyra Banks show she made alot of women believe in themselves. Tyra Banks who weighs about 161 pounds was put into a magazine as being fat. The advertisers who published this magazine gave the perception that a person must have the size of a model. Not only is this a negative perception but it sends off a bad message to younger girls. Tyra banks impacted many people and she made them realize that their weight does not make them beautiful and that beauty come from within. Tyra banks believe that it does not matter how big you are and what matters the most is that you are in good health. After Tyra portrayed that message she impacted alot of women. She had everyone in the audience use the term " SO WHAT" which was used for women who have been put down about their appearance and now have the strength to feel good about themselves. She has also impacted me in many ways cause sometimes I find little things to complain about but in reality I do not take the time appreciate the fact that I am in good health. The fact of the matter is we should all be happy of who we are and not worry about what others think about us.

gender role

After having the discussion on the roles of gender it made me realize how important it is in today's society. Not only has this topic come up in reading class but it was also discussed in my English writing class. Growing up I have always learned about the roles that both men and women played. You always hear about the women staying home and cleaning and taking care of the kids while the man goes to work and bring home the money. This is the perception that society made. They also made women feel inferior to men and that men are more dominant than women. At one point women were not allowed to get an education or have any type of job. As time progressed things has change. Women are now able to work and live independently. Many women who are married majority of the time are working while the husband is taking care of the kids and doing other things that needs to be done in the house such as cooking and cleaning. Now that things has change over time women are now treated equally to men in some cases as far as having a job and running a house hold.

How does American culture defines beauty

After doing a paper on advetisement I realize that the American cutlture once us to be like the models on the magazine. For example the ad gives the perception that clear skin is more acceptable to the public eye than those of acne and the marks that are left behind. The way beauty is defined around us makes up the ideal look of how society wants us to be. They believe the ideal look is someone with beautiful skin, which consist of no blemishes on their face. The ad displays that type of message and it is basically advertising a type of cream that would fight your blemish and take away any remaining marks that are left behind. The fact of the matter is beauty comes from within and until people realize that, they are going to continue to buy more and more products to satisfy their needs. It takes more than just looking at an ad and wanting what the product offer or wanting to look like the person on that magazine. People need to stop trying to please society with the ideal image and become happy with one’s self as an individual.

Does Money make the world go round?

Does money make the world go round? Many people believe that money makes a happy and comfortable life but I disagree. Growing up I have always learned that money can not buy the important things in life such as a good family, love and happiness. People who believe that money makes a perfect life are the ones who are sometimes unhappy. They have so much money that they do not know what to do with it. They are so busy trying to have the finer things in life rather than trying to live a wonderful life with great people to appreciate their presence. Money sometimes breaks up friendships, relationships with love ones and even family. Could you believe that a piece a paper can over power the minds of some people? Many people forgot the main idea of having money and what it was once used for such paying bills and also for personal reasons but people began to abuse the idea of even having it. I don't believe that money makes the world go round but I do believe its not something that makes a person life much easier or even happy. Life is pricless and that is what matters the most that is what brings forth happiness and apprecation.

What I have learned about the halocaust?

I have always heard about the halocaust but did not know much about it but after reading the book Night and researching the history of the halocaust I got a better understanding of what it was about. I knew Hitler had to do with the halocaust but I did not know he over power everyone and took away rights of the Jews. He had alot of say on things. He had alot of restrictions as far as them doing what they want. He made many peoples life a living hell.

My reaction on the genocide

I believe the genocide to be the most horrible thing anyone should ever have to face. Why does two groups have to create war between each other. They are not only hurting themselves but they are also killing innocent people. It is sad to see that many people have to live their life like this. It becomes a scary time for those who are innocent. Many people who are apart of the genocide either has to hide or they are separated from their love ones. I feel sorry for those who had to face this in the past. I just hope it all ends one day.

Genocide

With all the hatred that is going on in the world today there is still genocide. Many cultural groups bring forth alot of hate towards other groups which cause a huge conflict between both groups. Many times with situations like this neither groups do not want to take a stand and stop the violence that they are causing. Something like this take time before the crime stops. I do believe it takes a strong person to change all of this.

Reading Class

Growing I did enjoy reading books, books that I thought was very interesting to me. As I got older I stop reading them it was not that I was not interested in reading any more but I became lazy. As time progressed I noticed how essential reading is.Everything around us considers reading. One of the biggest test that we had to take to get in to college had a reading section (SAT'S). Now that I am older I wish that I read more and I sometimes truly do regret it. Taking this class would be a great start and I do believe at the end of the semester I would have that motivation to read again. So far I do enjoy the class as well as the teacher. She motivates me alot and I am so happy that I have her as a teacher. For example I did not know much about Malcom X I have heard of him but I did not know about his difficulty in reading until I read about his background information. His story inspired me alot and it made realize how important it is to read not only because it fundamental but because it helps you build a better vocabulary. I believe after taking this class it would motivate me and it would benefit me in man ways.

How I felt about the story "Night"

After reading the story "Night" I thought it to be a very sad story. Having the author talk about his holocaust experience made me realize that was the hardest obstacle that he had to face. I consider the Nazis to be very cruel and harsh people. These were people who were very cold hearted and did not care about anyone . What has hurt me the most was when they were burning innocent babies. What these people were doing it felt as though there was know purpose for any human being to live because it seems like they were killing any and everybody. Personally I believe what these people as well as the author went through was torture. I do feel sad for them especially for those who died during the holocaust. After getting an over all idea of what the story was about it made me realize the difficulties that many people have to face in different cultures especially those who have experienced the holocaust tragedy.

A description of who I am

Hi My name is Kendra. I am freshman here a t Montclair State University. I am a Biology major and I want to pursue a career goal in the medical field. I have a passion for helping people and I do beleive I can achieve that goal as a physician. I was born and raised in Newark, N.J. and I have a twin brother and one older sister. My parents are from the Island of Trinidad located in the westindies. My biggest achievement is to fulfill the goal of getting a college education. My goals right now is to work to my ability and to do my best in all the classses that I take. Taking this class I hope to get more out of reading, so far I have realize how essential reading can be. It can be very beneficial for in many cases and I hope in the long run it would be beneficial to me. I am very happy that I am taking this class. The teacher is a very good teacher and she makes you realize how importnat it is to a getting a good college education.
